Elephant House

Country Retreat, Eastern Cape Game Reserves

About

The serenity and calmness one enjoys at Elephant House reminds one of the nature of the elephant. Found just outside the entrance to the Addo Elephant Park in Port Elizabeth, the Elephant House is a celebration of colonial Africa and the true African spirit, surrounded by citrus groves and in one of the lushest parts of South Africa.

Accommodation

Thatched cottages in the garden play host to elephant and nature lovers and open onto private courtyards and verandahs. Guests can choose from eleven well appointed and luxurious rooms at the Elephant House. While the standard cottages offer two bedrooms and plenty of space, the two luxury terraces have balconies that overlook the beautiful garden.

The luxury colonial cottages are incredibly spacious and can fit a family of elephants inside. Boasting a private verandah, fireplace and outdoor shower, this cottage is perfect for families. All the accommodations have en-suite bathrooms as well as air conditioning.

Facilities

The Elephant House offers plenty of opportunities to see both wildlife and elephants in the Addo Elephant Park.  The restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy the delicious local cuisine while the bar promises to provide great sundowners after a day of walking with elephants. Enjoy a nightcap called Amarula – the favourite fruit of the elephant and a traditional after dinner drink in South Africa.

Elephant House also boasts two swimming pools and is within driving distance of some of the best 4x4 trials, golf courses and horse riding paths in South Africa.

Child Policy

Children are welcome at the Elephant House and children under 4 years old stay for free

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
