The Kwa-Zulu Natal Midland’s pastoral scenes of rolling hills, farms and country estates are interspersed with quaint villages and the occasional large town steeped in history. Browse through shops brimming with ceramics, wind chimes, leather goods and even hammocks, and witness locals creating their masterpieces. Sample locally crafted beer, wine and home -made cheeses and bring your senses to life with gourmet meals lovingly prepared using the freshest ingredients. The route’s clean air, wholesomeness and creativity comes across in the laid-back friendliness and warmth of the region and its gentile vibe.
The capital of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Pietermaritzburg is an interesting city with great historic significance. During the Second World War Italian prisoners built a church which stands as a heritage site today and it was in this city that Ghandi made his momentous decision to remain in SA and fight racial discrimination. Just outside Howick, Nelson Mandela’s capture site is immortalised in a uniquely designed steel structure. Free-standing poles depict the former president’s face in a mind-boggling display.
Lushly green and rich in vegetation, the Midland’s Karkloof Nature Reserve offers canopy tours to get the blood pumping. Active travellers can enjoy quad biking, horse riding and tubing and perhaps try your hand at fly-fishing in one of the Midlands top trout or bass dams.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
