Fordoun Hotel & Spa

Country Retreat, The Midlands

Nestled in the KwaZulu Natal midlands, lies a hotel and spa that simply put, is a lesson in sheer luxury and refinement. The Fordoun Hotel, with the Drakensberg Mountains as a backdrop welcomes guests with only their sheer relaxation in mind.

Perched on the verdant land of a dairy farm, the refined Fordoun Hotel was once the farm buildings in the 1800’s and has been reborn into the boutique hotel it is today. Its modern aesthetics compliment the touches of a time gone by perfectly while it’s atmosphere invites guests to relax, take in the country air and listen as the clouds gently move across the Drakensberg.

The Fordoun Hotel offers guests a choice of rooms and mountain or dam facing suites. Each one of these has been individually designed and is open plan and spacious, inviting light into every corner. Of course, every luxurious whim has been catered to in these rooms, from underfloor heating to king sized beds and private balconies.

The self-catering accommodation invites guests to enjoy all the comforts of home while taking in panoramic views of the Drakensberg. Guests can choose from eight of these chalets, each providing that real-country hospitality.

The Fordoun Spa offers award winning treatments and is the perfect relaxed cherry on the top of an already tranquil setting. Guests can also enjoy an indoor swimming pool, floating pool, jacuzzi, sauna, yoga sessions, gym, fly fishing and mountain biking. The renowned Skye Restaurant also serves up delicious delicacies for guests to indulge in any time of day.

Fordoun also has a traditional healer on hand from the Thendela Village near by. Traditional healer, Dr Elliot Ndlovu provides guests with guided tours to this fully functioning Zulu village.

Child Policy

Children of all ages are welcome at Fordoun, however, no children are permitted at the spa or in the Skye restaurant after 18:00.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
