The reserve incorporates two dramatic and picturesque river valleys and is home to the famous Big 5 as well as an abundance of African wildlife including hippo, giraffe and zebra. Accommodation – The Homestead

With seven spacious bedrooms, the lodge caters for 14 people and is best suited to a family or group of friends looking for the comfort, convenience and privacy of their own home. This home away from home offers en-suite bathrooms in every bedroom, a sumptuous lounge with satellite TV, a bar, swimming pool and boma all set in a large picturesque garden with showstopping views.

Facilities

The Homestead comes with dedicated hosts, a game ranger and your own private cook. This lodge is so luxurious everything is planned around your own specific needs, if you want to do an impromptu game drive all you have to do is let your game ranger know, fancy a midday snack? Ask your cook to whip something up. Your pub lounge with its satellite TV and fireplace makes a great space for festive entertaining with family or friends, or enjoy sundowners in the outdoor boma while the kids splash about in the pool. The lodge also has a dining room, a private outdoor deck with a fireplace, a main kitchen, a presentation kitchen and a laundry room.

Activities

When you are not enjoying the facilities at The Homestead, try an early morning game drive or set sail on a majestic cruise down the Kariega River. Grab your tackle box and teach the kids to fish or take a leisurely glide on the river in a canoe. The wildlife is yours to discover on a guided bush walk and for the ultimate relaxation, indulge in a couple of spa treatments. The itinerary at The Homestead is very flexible – with your own personal hosts, cook and game ranger the schedule can be adjusted to accommodate your every need.

Nearby attractions include the golden beaches of Kenton-on-Sea, less than 15 minutes away which means you get to combine Big 5 game viewing and river sightseeing with a beach holiday. For the enthusiastic golfer the Royal Port Alfred and Fish River Sun Golf courses (Gary Player designed) are respectively 25 and 40 minutes away. Historical sites include local towns rich in history such as Grahamstown, Salem, Bathurst and Port Alfred all significant in South Africa’s heritage. Known as the Friendly City, Port Elizabeth is a beautiful coastal hub offering everything from scuba diving to great shopping and scenic bayside restaurants.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
