Leeu House

Boutique Hotel, Franschhoek

Description

Though boasting a prime spot in Franschhoek village’s bustling main street, five-star Leeu House excels at creating a chilled-out vibe.  The award-winning restaurants, art galleries, boutiques and health clubs are right there when you need, but so too are a pool, slumberous lounges and sleepy, secluded gardens.  Having just 12 rooms makes the hotel feel truly exclusive, and its decor is an exercise in contemporary Cape Dutch style: oak finishes, open fireplaces and pastel shades interspersed with sculpture and modern artworks.

Accommodation

Individually-fitted, those 12 rooms and suites blend an easy, elegant style with all-important comfort.  Three open onto their own private gardens, two more boast terrace courtyards, and a final pair have private balconies.  Found in all are eiderdown duvets, fine linens, Wi-Fi access and marble-floored bathrooms with freestanding tubs.

Facilities

Beautifully landscaped and interspersed with more intriguing sculptures, the House’s gardens offer a heavenly, private oasis just meters away from busy Franschhoek high street.  Seek out a quiet corner and cosy up with a book, or head for the 15-metre freeform pool, whose partially-shaded terrace includes a few smartly-striped sun-loungers.  Inside, The Conservatory – along with its terrace – serves creative creative fusion dishes using local organic produce and the Lounge soothes tired bodies via an open wood-burning fireplace.  Its complimentary bar is stocked with spirits and wine from the nearby Leeu Estate.

Activities

Leeu Estate – with a spa, wine-tasting studio, expansive grounds and more exceptional small plates – can be visited by way of complimentary shuttles.  In town, Leeu owns another acclaimed eatery, The Tasting Room, plus Franschhoek’s first-ever Indian restaurant and a craft-beer microbrewery.  Bicycles can be hired for explorations into the valley, while walks and wine-cellar visits are also easily arranged.

Child Policy

Children are welcome and can be accommodated on sofa beds in selected rooms.
