Morukuru Beach Lodge

Beach Lodge, Whale Coast

De Hoop Nature Reserve along South Africa’s Garden Route is famous for its towering talc powder sand dunes lapped by the azure Indian Ocean. Morukuru Beach Lodge is perfectly situated on this pristine coastline, with impressive views of the limestone cliffs and surrounded by indigenous coastal fynbos. Due to its remote location, Morukuru Beach Lodge is a sanctuary for those who want to venture off the beaten track and still enjoy refined comfort and luxury.

Voted best lodge in South Africa by Condé Nast Traveler Readers Choice in 2020 and in 2021 (and #2 in the world!)

Morukuru Beach Lodge boasts an eco-friendly design and consists of four luxury Ocean View suites and one Honeymoon suite with exquisite décor in soft tones of ochre and relaxing hues of green and blue. Step out onto the terrace of your king-sized suite and enjoy an early morning coffee or a sundowner in the evening with showstopping floor to ceiling views of the Indian Ocean. Your en-suite bathroom features a walk-in rain shower and you get to enjoy the guest pantry fully stocked with coffee, tea, water and soft drinks. Book the honeymoon suite and you’ll get your own private outdoor bath with spectacular views of the ocean and the fynbos stippled dunes. Additional amenities include free Wi-Fi, TV, electronic safe, underfloor heating, bathrobes, slippers, hairdryer and morning coffee/tea service in your room.

Enjoy lazy days by the heated swimming pool or experience pure relaxation in the simmering outdoor hot tub. At the end of the day, head up to the first-floor roof-top terrace and soak up the spectacular views with a signature cocktail or retreat to the outdoor sunken lounge and snuggle up and unwind in front of the crackling fire pit. Food and wines are sourced locally, and dining options include breakfast, a buffet style lunch and dinner. If you fancy an al fresco option, the lodge will prepare a mouth-watering picnic basket for you to enjoy on the beach or in the dunes,

Guided 4x4 nature drives offer a good opportunity to see some of the local wildlife in the park such as the Bontebok, Cape Mountain Zebra and the elusive Cape Leopard. Alternatively, you can experience the diversity and beauty of the region on foot on a guided marine or fynbos walk. Considered to be the ultimate place in South Africa to see Southern Right Whales, the dunes are a great spot for possible sightings of these majestic creatures. Guided mountain biking is offered and sand boarding on the powder white sand dunes is great fun for the whole family. With the beach on your doorstep, discovering the unspoilt haven below the waters within the marine protected area of the De Hoop Nature Reserve makes swimming and snorkeling an unforgettable joy.
