The Robertson Small Hotel

City Hotel, Route 62

Description

Positioned on the eastern section of those famous Winelands, the Breede River Valley is as beautiful as it is bountiful. It’s also exceedingly well-positioned: Route 62 – aka the ‘longest wine route in the world’ – links its rom its orchards and vineyards to the Garden Route, while Cape Town is only two hours away. Located inside the valley’s bijou main town of Robertson, this ten-room boutique offers serious style, coupled with a relaunched restaurant, lovely gardens and a pool. No wonder almost all guests report wishing that they’d stayed longer.

Accommodation

Three of those ten rooms are inside the original Manor House, certified as a historical monument. Each sports Victorian-style high, embossed ceilings and beautiful, wrought-iron verandas. More spacious are a trio of Stable Suites, including one especially-large upstairs Honeymoon Suite, and the top offering are four Pool Suites, whose private wooden decks lead directly to the water. Every room comes with heated towel rails, air-conditioning, king-size beds, iPod docks and wi-fi, plus chic, bright design courtesy of London-based Studio Ashby.

Facilities

The Small Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the latter two requiring booking. Promoting South African produce, its menu is overseen by Rose Ashby of London’s Spring restaurant. Also inside is the EM Bar, sharply designed in blue and white tones and mixing local gins and whiskies with homemade cordials, and a wellness room where massages can be arranged. Head outside for a swim in one of the two pools, or a stroll through landscaped gardens.

Activities

Genial staff can arrange merry wine-tasting tours at any of the local, world-class vineyards, and advise on hikes along the tranquil Breede River or into the Langeberg mountains. Robertsson itself boasts nice cafes, microbreweries, galleries and orchards.

Child Policy

Children of all ages are welcome, but only one per room. Cots, babysitting and high chairs can be arranged.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
