The Strandloper Ocean Boutique

Boutique Hotel, West Coast

About

Lying within a lobster’s throw of the Atlantic, the Strandloper offers laid-back luxury with a peaceful, seafaring accent.  It’s particularly well positioned for those journeying on north to the Cederberg Mountains, or returning to Cape Town.  Picturesque Paternoster is a fishing village famous for its seafood, and local restaurants make delectable use of each day’s catches.  Along with spacious rooms and a glorious deck, the hotel has direct access to five miles of sandy beachfront.  Shoes?  Entirely optional.  Relaxation?  Absolutely guaranteed.

Accommodation

Blending beach chic with contemporary luxury, the 13 spacious rooms and suites come with a terrace or private courtyard affording sublime views.  Wood and stone interiors combine with pale hues and high ceilings to produce a chilled-out atmosphere.  Bathtubs and outdoor showers are promised, as are air-conditioning, iPod docks and a butler service.  Then there’s the extravagant Ocean Executive Suite, whose guests enjoy a private seafront terrace, heated pool, fireplace and lounge, dining area and loft office.

Facilities

The hotel’s 20m-long pool is ringed by a sun deck, and refreshments can be brought to your daybed.  Inside, a Wellness Suite offers treatments using natural African products, while the comfy main Ocean Lounge area has sea views and a fireplace for cooler months.  Breakfasts are served here or on the outer terrace,  along with light lunches and afternoon teas.  Dinners are available upon request.  The hotel has Wi-Fi throughout.

Activities

Do as much – or as little – as you like.  Activity-wise, take a kayak out to sea and search for dolphins and whales, or rent a bike and explore the West Coast.  You can also explore the dunes on a beach buggy with a clued-up guide. Paternoster makes for lovely evening strolls, and its bistros are particularly renowned for their exquisite lobster.   Nearby attractions include the Columbine Nature Reserve, especially beautiful amid spring’s wildflower blooms, and various birdwatching trails.

Child Policy

Children aged 12 and over are welcome.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
