Day 1
Welcome to Johannesburg! You will be meet at your aircraft with your name on a paging board and assisted through immigration, baggage collection and customs.
You will then be shown to your shuttle flight to Richards Bay in Zululand, KZN.
You will be met by a representative and shown to your car hire.
Enjoy an easy three hour drive up the coast to a meeting point where you will leave your car and be taken by 4x4 the last 20 minutes to Kosi Forest Lodge.
Check into Kosi Forest Lodge for 3 nights on a full board basis in a Family Tent.
Arrive in time for a delicious light lunch on the deck, before relaxing for the afternoon - either around the swimming pool overlooking the lake or enjoy one of the many activities on offer.
Day 2
Spend the day on a boat trip out through a series of 5 connecting lakes, circumnavigating pods of hippo and enjoying an abundance of birdlife. Stop for a picnic on the shore, before heading over the dunes for a swim in the sea. Saunter back to the boat through the tranquil dune forests. Stop off for a final swim in the crystal clear waters of the lake, where your guide will fill you in on the intricate workings of the Thonga fish traps as well as the local tribes captivating history and culture.
Day 3
Spend the morning on a canoe safari with a qualified guide. Enjoy a picnic lunch provided by the lodge.
Day 4
After a delicious breakfast, you will be taken back to your hire car to drive the 2 hours down to Thanda Safari Camp.
Enjoy 3 nights at this beautiful 5 star Big Five game lodge, where you will be treated to very special game drives, incredible hospitality and remarkable suites.
Accommodation is on a full board basis, and includes local drinks, plus complimentary mini bar drinks and dome delicious in-room snacks.
Day 5
Embark on an early morning game drive and see the wildlife come alive as the sun rises.
Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast before retiring to our suite to relax by your private plunge pool or on your very own elevated day bed.
Dont be too surprised to see an elephant taking a midday drink from your plunge pool!
A light lunch is served at the restaurant.
Your late afternoon / evening game drive departs around 3pm, after a good slice of cake and a cup of strong tea.
Return to the lodge after dark for pre-dinner drinks and a lovely relaxed informal (but delicious) supper!
Day 6
Enjoy another day of early morning and late afternoon game drives.
In between game activities, you can relax by your pool or visit the Spa for a pampering session.
You can also head out on a walking safari with a tracker and ranger to discover the animals at closer range.
Dinner will be served around the fire, or in the restaurant.
Day 7
This morning you will head off after breakfast on an easy 3 hour drive to the coastal town of Umhlanga near Durban. Check into The Oyster Box Hotel for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis in 2 Classic Sea Facing Rooms.
Enjoy 2 nights at this iconic South African beach hotel, where you will enjoy all outstanding facilities the hotel has to offer including direct access to a lovely family friendly beach, swimming pools, cinema room, kids club, Spa, restaurants and bars.
Day 8
Spend the day enjoying the pools and beaches, or take a trip into the city of Durban for some shopping. Wonder along the beachfront promenade and soak up the atmosphere at the beach front craft markets
Day 9
With such amazing hotel facilities, you will probably want to spend the day between pools and beach again, with a pit stop for a light lunch on the terrace. Local day trips are available including a visit to the Valley of a Thousand Hills, or some cultural tours of Durban city.
Tonight you can choose to dine at the more informal Terrace restaurant, famous for its Indian curry buffet, or indeed book into The Grill House for a more sophisticated dining experience. Friendly babysitters are at the ready!
Day 10
This morning you will depart for the northern Drakensberg Mountain region, which will take approximately 4 hours of easy driving on good, well sign posted roads.
Arrive at The Cavern in time for a late light lunch on the verandah and enjoy the gorgeous views over the valley.
Enjoy 4 nights here on a full board basis, in a 2 Superior Inter-leading Rooms with fun, action packed days in the clean mountain air.
Day 11
Take a picnic and enjoy a day of horse-riding, exploring the surrounding hills, lakes and mountains.
After dinner this evening, watch an old movie in the cinema room, have a drink at the cosy bar, or indulge in a private wine tasting in the beautiful little wine cellar.
Day 12
Relax around the swimming pool, enjoying sweeping views over the northern Drakensberg, whilst the kids enjoy a football match with the delightful staff.
Pony rides are available for smaller children, as well as babysitters and even private guides to help carry younger children in special hiking backpacks!
Day 13
Today you will wave goodbye to the wonderful staff and head off on an easy 4 hour drive to Johannesburg International Airport where you will catch your flight back to the UK.
