Emily Moon River Lodge

Boutique Hotel, Plettenberg Bay

About

Now that’s we call a location.  Perched on the river banks, overlooking the beautiful Bitou wetlands, luxurious Emily Moon is also just five minutes’ drive from Plettenberg Bay – the Garden Route’s busiest hub.  Crowds will seem a distant memory here, though, with the ten-suite hotel majoring in tranquility.  Spend your days enjoying the local attractions, then return for wonderful watery views and acclaimed dinners.

Accommodation

All of Emily Moon’s rooms blend a clean, contemporary African style with curios and furniture collected from across the continent – owners Mark and Christine also being art dealers.  Each self-contained chalet also promises spacious living areas, ceiling fans, a fireplace for those cooler nights and underfloor bathroom heating.  Outside are showers and peaceful decks facing down the sweeping river valley.  There’s an additional honeymoon suite, plus a self-catering house.

Facilities

Entered through hulking, beautifully-carved wooden doors, the main lodge contains Emily’s Restaurant, a local institution thanks to eclectic creations using lots of home-grown produce.  Meals can be served to candlelight, or outdoor on another viewing deck as the sun sets.  Beforehand, sip delicous cocktails in Simon’s Bar (also artisian pizza on offer), before sitting down to some delightlful local cuisine in the quirky restaurant.  The pool provides another route of relaxation

Activities

Guests can embark on local walks or bike trails through Tsitsikamma’s forests, just over half an hours drive away, or hire canoes to go paddling on the river at no extra cost.  Further afield are golf courses, extensive sandy beaches, fishing opportunities, scuba diving locations or Storms River bridge, the worlds highest bungee jump.  Horse-riding, canyoning, skydiving, birdwatching and much more are also available, while the family-friendly Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary and Elephant Sanctuary make great day-trips.

Child Policy

Children are welcome, with two family lodges sleeping up to four adults and four sprogs.  As above, there are heaps of family-suitable activities available locally.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
