The Last Word Kommetjie

Boutique Hotel, False Bay & Cape Peninsular

About

Ten. That’s roughly how many steps it takes to get from The Last Word Long Beach’s six bedrooms onto adjacent soft white dunes – it would be quicker, but you have to sidestep (and resist) a large pool.  Found in the pretty lobster-fishing village of Kommetjie, forty minutes west from Cape Town, this bolthole typifies the untroubled vibe of a sandy Atlantic seaboard famed for dreamy ocean vistas and blissful quietude.  Very romantic, it particularly suits those seeking a few soothing, slumberous days before the flight home.

Accommodation

On the ground floor are three spacious superior doubles and a larger Junior Suite, with private decks.  One storey up are a pair of bigger-still Elegant Suites, each boasting a balcony looking across the twinkling Atlantic.  All chambers – and even their big bathrooms – face the Atlantic, and all are opulently and comfortably furnished, with lots of ivory, pale blues and salmon pink.  Lime-washed wooden shutters add an element of seaside chic.

Facilities

That freeform pool, together with a sprawling patio, is a place to while away restful hours under the sun, with soft breezes keeping brows cool.  Extravagant breakfasts can be served out there, and are included in your board along with all beverages; lunches and dinners are available by arrangement.

Activities

Stroll up the soft white sand into Kommetjie, and maybe onto cast-iron Slangkop lighthouse, which is open to the public.  Or do the same journey on horseback.  Long Beach is also a South African surfing hotspot, while other local activities include hiking among milkwood trees or dazzling fynbos, biking along the coast or visiting Boulders Beach’s penguin colony.  Tailored tours of Cape Town and lobster-catching excursions are also possible.  Whatever you choose to do, The Last Word’s in-house travel planner and private chauffeuring service stand ready to help.

Child Policy

Children over 3 years old are welcome at Long Beach.  If all 6 rooms are booked for exclusive use, children of all ages are welcome.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
