Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge

Game Lodge, Kruger

About

With over 35 years of safari history, this private game reserve offers wild-life seekers some of the best Big Five viewing in Africa, along with superlative accommodation and the finest safari cuisine.  Based in the South West of the Sabi Sand Reserve means that you are within quick and easy reach of Kruger Mpumalanga and Skukuza airport.  There is also a private  landing strip for those who wish to beat the baggage claim blues.

Known as the “birthplace of sustainable wilderness development” -  Earth Lodge is built into a slope of the earth, which allows it to seamlessly blend into the natural environment  – one of the most earth-friendly lodges on the continent and top places to visit in South Africa.

National Geographic regards this luxury accommodation as one of the most unique lodges of the world and with its focus on sensory accommodation, its no wonder. Innovative design is used to ensure that the focus remains on the bushveld while still allowing enough privacy to feel like you are staying on your own corner of truly African land.

The transition between this accommodation and a safari in an open vehicle as natural as the surroundings. After a day of adventure and discovery, one can head back to the lodge to enjoy many of the fine amenities on offer. Taking its cue from the vast mineral wealth of South Africa, these veins of precious elements are evident throughout the lodge decor and design,  distracted only by the clear flickering night sky above.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Earth Lodge includes 13 incredible suites – one of which is the Amber Presidential Suite. Unlike the other lodges at Sabi Sabi who embrace safari lodge class, the suites at the Earth Lodge embrace modern design and architecture that is minimalist enough to focus on its natural surroundings.

The furniture in each of the suites are one-off designs. Every one of the suites boasts a private plunge pool, glass faced bathroom and outdoor shower – ensuring that you experience nature at every point of your holiday.

The Amber Presidential Suite mirrors the vastness of space outside the Lodge but leaves no space wasted. It has its own steam room as well as kitchen and study – ensuring you enjoy the comforts of home and then some.

Facilities

Facilities at the Earth Lodge include an indoor/ outdoor dining experience that overlooks a watering hole as well as a wine cellar, gym and meditation centre. Of course, the best part of the Earth Lodge has to be the outdoor boma with walls that are sculpted from tree roots, carefully selected and placed to form a truly natural surrounding.

The Amani Spa is also not to be missed and offers a plethora of beauty rituals and natural treatments and massages.

Child Policy

Children over 12 are welcome at Earth Lodge.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
