La Petite Dauphine

Wine Estate, Franschhoek

Description

Location, luxury, comfort and convenience – those are the reasons to hole up at La Petite Dauphine.  Accessed via a stately driveway flanked by cypress trees, this wine and fruit-producing ‘guest farm’ is a mile from Franschhoek village, but offers a real retreat thanks to spectacular views over undulating, vine-covered valley flanks towards purple-coloured mountains beyond.  It’s a seductive place that typifies the Winelands: easy-going, and effortlessly charming.

Accommodation

Divided into four categories, the nine suites each offer a unique look, from smouldering dark-wood to modern-style exposed brick.  Carefully-chosen fabrics, plump pillows and beckoning armchairs are constants, as are views over sun kissed orchards.  Two-bedroom suites suit families, while top-grade Executive Suites come with patios, private plunge pools and, in one case, a four-poster bed.  Amenities include underfloor heating, wood burning fireplaces and Nespresso machines.

Facilities

Set among orange trees is Café Bon Bon, converted from a 200-year-old wine cellar and open daily for breakfast and lunch.  Sit on the terrace facing the vineyards, or inside among terracotta tiles and earthen walls, and enjoy slow-roasted pork belly or freshly-made ravioli, plus crisp local tipples.  Elsewhere, La Petite Dauphine boasts two guest pools, and guests may wander the grounds past manicured lawns, fragrant beds, contemporary artworks and the occasional rooster.

Activities

You could take a bottle of wine up to the Franschhoek Pass for sunset, or tackle the Boland Hiking Trail.  You could receive a fly-fishing lesson, or play golf at a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.  You could go cheese and wine-tasting on horseback, or fly around in a helicopter.  Or you could dine at some of South Africa’s finest restaurants in Franschhoek.  Just ask La Petite Dauphin’s staff for help.

Child Policy

All children are welcome, with tots aged 2 and under staying in a cot for free.  Babysitting’s available.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
