Boschendal Farm

Wine Estate, Franschhoek

Description

A farm surrounded by mountains and valleys as vast as its history – the story of Boschendal is a long one and the passion that has toiled its land through the centuries can still be seen today. This passion exists in every part of the farm – especially the accommodation, where no expense has been spared when it comes to refined luxury.

Being on one of the oldest farms in South Africa means that the accommodation is just as old. However, the owners of the farm have put their own modern spin on it ensuring a sophisticated stay.

Of course, being on a wine farm means that the farm shows signs of natural splendor wherever you look – and this is something that Boschendal is very proud of.

Accommodation

The cottages on the farm vary from restored old labourer orchard cottages to the historical Rhodes Cottage, designed by Herbert Baker. Because of the rural and natural nature of the farm, the cottages have been described as having a stylish simplicity.

The cottages at Boschendal are award winning which means you won’t only be staying in the best accommodation in the Cape Winelands, but you’ll be resting your head where Cecil John Rhodes once rested his.

There are four different sets of cottages, each with their own style and historical wonder to offer. Although cottage-style, space has been utilized well with some of the cottages offering two bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms.

Wake up to magnificent views of the valley of 300 year old vineyards and prepare to make your own history, at Boschendal.

Facilities

There is plenty to do for the discerning wine taster, outdoorsman or sun bather at Boschendal. There are a handful of swimming pools that guests are welcome to use, depending on which cottage they are staying in. Of course no natural heritage site would be complete without an amazing Cape culinary experience. Guests can choose from the Farm shop and deli, Rhone Homestead, Werf Restaurant or a picnic area.

There are also plenty of trails to explore all over the farm on foot, bike or horseback, including guided historical tours of the farm. All these features and more, make Boschendal a truly magical addition to any South African holiday.

Child Policy

Children of all ages are welcome at Boschendal.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.

Boschendal Farm Reviews

A spectacular 2 weeks in South Africa

We are just back from a spectacular 2 weeks in South Africa. We took our 8 year old son back having visited on our own 10 years ago and we all had one of the best holidays. We wanted our son to see "the real Africa" at the same time as doing the usual touristy things (including a very patient son as we toured the beautiful winelands). Best Of South Africa Travel helped us plan our holiday to cover off exactly what we felt we wanted but gave really great advice for other ideas so we could get the most out of the holiday (Mpumalanga). We managed to tick off all the boxes as well as see the Big 5 (including rare cheetah and wild dog sitings!) on a wonderful safari in the Sabi Sands.
