This full on, full day tour is an ideal choice for those who want to really explore the Cape Point region. It can be offered with walking or biking activities.
This morning you will be collected from your hotel for the start of your Cape Point Explorer tour. Start with a drive down the peninsular, towards the Boulders penguin colony, where you enjoy a visit with these little birds before the crowds arrive. Well-placed wooden walkways allow visitors to see these delightful little creatures in their natural habitat without invading their privacy too much. Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve at the tip of the peninsula.
Biking: Strong bikers may opt to ride from Boulders to the reserve and through to Cape Point. Otherwise, we will drive to the reserve and bike along the quiet roads to one of the spectacular beaches. During our visit to the reserve, we explore the old lighthouse at the point and the Cape of Good Hope. Wind permitting, the whole visit may be done by bike. Your guide will tailor the ride to your preferences and the conditions on the day.
Walking: After entering the reserve, we drive to a quiet beach on the western side of the reserve where we encounter great coastal scenery with the chance to see wildlife. The route starts out on the beach, taking in some interesting rock pools with abundant marine life and the sparse remains of a shipwreck, before turning inland to ascend onto the escarpment. A sandy trail with some rocky sections takes you back to the starting point, with an interesting side trip to the ruins of the WWII submarine observation posts. Following the hike, we continue to the point, where we visit the old lighthouse and the Cape of Good Hope.
The reserve is home to an array of fynbos, over 250 species of birds, buck, baboons and Cape mountain zebra.
A delicious picnic lunch and several snacks are included throughout the day. We return to the city in the late afternoon via Chapman's Peak Drive.
This tour may need to be adapted to accommodate adverse weather conditions.
Price excludes Flying Dutchman funicular.
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
