Cape Grace Hotel

City Hotel, V & A

About

If it’s good enough for the American President… Chosen by the Obamas, Cape Grace’s position on a prime piece of Waterfront real estate confirms it as Cape Town hotel royalty. Separated from the shopping sections by a bridge, it sits on a private quay between the working harbour and a truly bling marina. Table Mountain looms right overhead, with predictably gobsmacking views. Though there are 120 rooms and suites, the guest experience is akin to a boutique hotel thanks to warm service and a mixture of contemporary and traditional looks.

Accommodation

Each room and suite is unique right down to its beautiful headboard. But all have French windows, some have balconies with Table Mountain and marina or harbour views, iPod docks, air-conditioning, colonial-era artefacts and purposefully-chosen book selections. Even the smallest Luxury Rooms afford ample space, while the Suites and Penthouses offer large living areas and their own X-Box 360 on request.

Facilities

Every last corridor is a beautiful adventure, its chandeliers adorned with antique china pieces, perhaps Cupid and his arrow. Down one awaits the multi-award-winning Signal Restaurant, serving modern South African fare, while another leads to the Bascule Bar and Wine Cellar, home to one of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest whiskey selections.  There’s also a glassy, Africa-inspired spa, a heated outdoor pool, a boutique selling tanzanite jewellery, a gym and a library-lounge where afternoon tea is served.

Activities

Cape Grace’s concierge can arrange for an outing on a private yacht (at an additional charge) should you fancy cruising around Table Bay for sunset cocktails and canapes. Equally glamorous is the daily – and complimentary – wine-tasting, while other offerings include personalised picnic baskets for trips to the beach and a free luxury chauffeur service for anywhere within 6 miles.

Child Policy

Children of all ages are made extremely welcome via arrival gift-bags, evening bedtime stories in the library and special family experiences from gingerbread-decorating to children’s spa treatments.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
