Queen Victoria Hotel

City Hotel, V & A

About

Meet the newest addition to Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront hotel scene.  Set slightly back from the main hustle and bustle, this contemporary-style boutique dazzles from the moment you enter its vast, triple volume marble foyer.  A soaring spiral staircase, wispy chandeliers, glass lifts, high-backed sofas, a 25-year-old bonsai tree and signature splashes of mauve – perhaps in honour of Victoria herself – compete for your eyes’ attention, and a blessed air of calm permeates.  Shared facilities with the Victoria & Alfred and Dock House – neighbouring sister hotels – include restaurants, a pool and a spa.

Accommodation

The 32 rooms boast state-of-the-art lighting, climate control and marble bathrooms alongside doses of Victoriana: ornate mirrors and wildlife bronzes by local artists.  Look out too for the customised wallpaper with its images of the original Queen Victoria.  The three suites increase in size, from the Executive to the Presidential, whose wrap-around balcony (and double chaise longue) faces Table Mountain.  There’s 24-hour room service, while the hotel’s own designer fragrance keeps things fresh.

Facilities

Guests at the Queen Victoria get access to the swimming pool and garden of Dock House, as well as their hotel’s own excellent spa.  You can also book lunch or dinner at the Victoria & Alfred Hotel’s fine-dining and regally-positioned OYO Restaurant (closed from May-August 2016 for refurbishment).  But the Queen Victoria also has a formal option: Dash Restaurant & Bar, an intimate 36-seater named after the British monarch’s pet spaniel.

Activities

A short walk away is the vibrant and trendy V&A Waterfront itself, home to more restaurants, shops and the Two Oceans Aquarium.  Trips to Table Mountain, Camp’s Bay beach and Robben Island can be arranged by the Queen Victoria’s superb staff, as can helicopter flights, safari days, shark cage-diving and Winelands circuits

Child Policy

Children are very welcome and babysitting available.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
