Azamare Guest House

Guest House, Camps Bay

Camps Bay is a chichi Cape Town suburb, ideal for city-goers who like some quietness, good food and a beautiful white-sand beach on which to play. Ten minutes’ slightly-uphill walk from that is Azamare, a seven-room guesthouse offering tasteful luxury. Its sea-view bedrooms and big pool impress, but what really stands out here are the extra touches like complimentary wine and snacks each evening.

Elegantly furnished, all seven air-conditioned rooms and suites promise balconies with sigh-inducing sea views. More prosaic staples include mini-bars, tea and coffee facilities, plasma TVs and underfloor heating. Smaller rooms possess queen-size beds; luxury ones boast kings, as well as large bathrooms containing freestanding tubs. A top-floor Seahorse Suite chucks in a coffee machine, while the segregated, premium Nautilus Luxury Suite has its own private pool and sun loungers.

On the third floor, a main deck complete with hot tub and pool is the usual venue for those sundowner drinks and nibbles, timed as the sun sinks into reddened Atlantic Ocean just ahead. Towering behind are peaks known as the 12 Apostles, plus iconic Table Mountain. If it’s cold, the main lounge features a snuggly gas fireplace. Breakfast buffets are laid out here, too, or outside if desired. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.

Azamare’s excellent staff can help make Cape Town / Winelands tour bookings, with much information in the hotel, or restaurant reservations. The big city’s main sights are about six miles away, while Table Mountain’s just over three miles. Closer still are Camps Bay’s own restaurants; many line the suburb’s palm-flanked beach. Strolling about, you’ll also find cool coffee shops, cocktail bars and fashion boutiques.

Child Policy
Only children older than 12 years are accepted, to preserve the zen atmosphere. There’s no capacity for extra beds in rooms.
