The Cellars-Hohenort

Boutique Hotel, Constantia

About

Talk about well-positioned: The Cellars-Hohenort sits on Table Mountain’s forested slopes amid Constantia Valley, southern Africa’s oldest wine-growing area, yet only 15 minutes from Cape Town and with pinch-yourself views of False Bay.  Buried in nine acres of gorgeous gardens, the estate merges an 18th-century wine estate with the traditional Hohenort manor house.

Accommodation

52 roooms boast panoramic views if the iconic mountain and manicured, well established gardens.  Rooms range from double rooms to luxury double roos, suites and the opulent Madiba Villa.

Facilities

Grabbing headlines is the fine-dining Greenhouse, where Peter Tempelhoff, South Africa’s favourite Relais & Chateaux Grand Chef, conjures up world-renowned fare from South African seasonal ingredients – along with great afternoon teas.  There is also The Conservatory, more informal and superb value, serving traditional recipes, including a selection of The Collection founder Liz McGrath’s favourite dishes.  Both have classy wine lists.  Outside, McGrath’s lovingly-landscaped, award-winning grounds include a small vineyard and herbary, while two large, pools (one is heated) vie for attention as well as the superb Fresh Wellness spa, a Martini lounge and a chilled-out wine bar.

Activities

Sporty types will love the tennis court and Gary Player-designed putting and chipping green.  Further afield, The Cellars-Hohenort is ideally situated for getting to Cape Point, Robben Island and Table Mountain, or joining the Constantia Valley Wine Route.  Tastings can easily be arranged.

Child Policy

Children of all ages are made very welcome, with kid-friendly activities and lots of open space in which to tear around.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
