52 De Wet Private Hotel

Boutique Hotel, Camps Bay

About

Bantry Bay is Cape Town’s most exclusive suburb, draped over the mountain of Lion’s Head and gloriously overlooking the city and ocean beyond.  Occupying a sheltered position out of the wind, 52 De Wet is a private boutique residence, smoothly run by an English couple and drenched in South African sun.  More home than hotel in vibe, it’s contemporary in style and boasts an infinity pool and whale-watching potential from almost every veranda.

Accommodation

The seven rooms are spread over five floors, and there’s no elevator, so be warned if you’re knee-knacked!  On the bottom floor is a Secluded Suite, with its own entrance, and then a vast Two-Bedroom Suite packing in a lounge, kitchen, private balcony and plunge pool.  The subsequent storeys include two Standard Rooms with king sized beds – but less good views – plus a larger Superior Suite and two Deluxe Ocean View Suites with balconies and unrestrained ocean vistas.  At the top is a Penthouse Suite with a walk-in dressing room, photo-happy balcony and lounge.  All are smartly furnished and all come equipped with flatscreen TVs, air-conditioning and Ecoco Amenities bath products.

Facilities

Below all that are relaxing sitting and dining areas, where super breakfasts and meals by Michelin-trained chef Russell Ball are enjoyed.  Pre-booking the latter is essential.  There’s also the Langaro Spa, whose body and facial treatments can be carried out from a therapy room or in one’s own suite.  Outside is a handsome terrace, with chaise-longues and a swing cocoon seat – from which whales and dolphins are regularly spied – and an infinity pool.

Activities

52 De Wet can also arrange yoga and juicing retreats from 3 to 7 days and can include total juicing detox packages, or combinations of juicing and fine dining options including Cape Town’s top restaurants.  All retreat packages include daily private yoga instruction and private guided walks around Table Mountain, Lions Head and Signal Hill.

Also on offer at 52 De Wet is a cooking lesson involving a morning trip to a local organic market and a few hours of preparing in the afternoon.  Guests can partake or observe as much or little as they like, and sit down to enjoy the meal in the evening.

52 De Wet’s staff are delighted to help with onward travel plans, restaurant reservations, Waterfront shopping outings or expeditions to Table Mountain or Camps Bay.  Boat-based whale watching is also possible.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
