Kensington Place

Boutique Hotel, City Bowl

About

The quintessential Cape Town boutique hotel, Kensington Place ticks every box with aplomb.  Location?  In leafy Higgovale, on Table Mountain’s slopes overlooking the whole city.  Design?  Sexy and stylish, but also comfortable and snug.  Pool, gardens and spa access?  Tick, tick, tick.  What about the food?  Famously good, especially the available-all-day breakfasts.  The rooms?  Suites mostly, large with glorious views.  The service?  Five-star quality.  And the catch?  We’re still looking for one.

Accommodation

The rooms marry slick contemporary style – neutral tones and splashes of bright colour; lots of space – with eclectic African touches like porcupine-quill lampshades.  There are seven Superior Suites (some twin) and one slightly smaller Standard Room.  All but Room 7 enjoy splendid vistas of the city, harbour and framing mountains from private terraces; some have marble bathtubs, while others boast romantic double showers.  Every unit has a laptop with wi-fi, underfloor heating, iPod dock and DVD player.  Use the 24/7 room service to borrow a film from the owners’ extensive library, or to order breakfast in bed.

Facilities

Lovely tropical gardens encompass the building, providing a relaxing air of tranquility.  Inside the leafy courtyard awaits a small pool, its deck is dotted with large daybeds whose sheets ruffle in the soft breeze.  You can eat breakfast and other meals here, on your own terrace, inside a lounge… wherever you want, and whenever you want, basically.  The dinner menu is short, but excellent: locally-sourced ingredients and meals full of flavour

Activities

A dedicated concierge team are permanently on hand.  From bookings at the hip restaurants on nearby Kloof Street – they major on food – to Constantia vineyard tastings,, golf bookings, beach directions, taxis and Table Mountain cable car advice, nothing is too much trouble.  Stays include complimentary access to the local Virgin Active health club.

Child Policy

The minimum age is 12 years.

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.

Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
